The M.O.R.E. Campaign

A Letter from our Finance Chair

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

God calls on us to take action to honor Point Hope Church’s mission: “Led by the Holy Spirit, we are building a community of disciples of Christ, by worshiping weekly, growing in groups, sharing God’s Word, and serving others.” We are well positioned to be a Christian leader impacting our community through ministry and outreach as we are blessed with:

  • Significant population growth of north Mount Pleasant providing opportunity to grow

  • Blessings of support from the community around us such as the support we received from Mt. Horeb to help reduce our mortgage

  • Stable active church membership

  • Global Methodist affiliation has provided us with new excitement and support to expand God’s work

  • Leadership with a vision on how Point Hope can deliver hope to more people

In order for Point Hope to reach more people in our community, we need to improve our financial position to be able to meet our mission. A key factor in our ability to expand our ministry is the amount of mortgage debt we are managing. Currently our mortgage debt is $551,000 and our interest payments annually are $45,763 This burden limited our ability to expand outreach and ministry programs. Beginning in July we will start a three month capital campaign to reduce our debt with our financial gifts to be used for ministry and outreach instead of paying for interest on our mortgage.

M.O.R.E. stands for:

Match Mt. Horeb

Outreach our community

Reduce our debt

Expand God’s ministry

Each of us will have the opportunity to pledge the amount of financial assistance you are able to provide. In the history of our church, we have not had a capital campaign so we take this opportunity seriously and grateful for the blessings this campaign will deliver in the future. In addition to traditional pledges, The M.O.R.E. Campaign will provide you with the opportunity to make an exclusive donation to provide a memorial or dedication in your name or family name for a select list of rooms within our church. The cost to dedicate / memorialize a room is based on the approximate cost of our mortgage debt per SQ ft for each individual room.

Rooms that are available for dedication are:

  • Beach Room- $15,000 donation

  • Sunshine Room- $10,000 donation

  • Forest Room- $10,000 donation

  • River Room- $10,000 donation

  • Lowcountry - $35,000 donation

  • Gathering Hall- $100,000 donation

Plaques will be mounted in your name in each room with information about who the room was dedicated / memorialized to and by whom. Rooms will be offered on a first come first serve basis. All pledges are impactful, so we encourage you to prayerfully contemplate what you can do to help Point Hope now and in the future. Pledge cards are available in the church office. We will have Q&A Sessions after church on June 29th and July 13th for questions and discussion of The M.O.R.E. Campaign. Point Hope is already providing God’s work in our community, with your help we can expand his ministry to more people today and for generations to come. We ask you to consider honoring God’s work in your life by contributing your financial and spiritual gifts to Point Hope’s future. Please feel free to contact me confidentially with any questions or concerns.

Blessings,

Arch Martin

Frequent Asked Questions

1. Why are we having a campaign now?

Answer: The church council prayerfully considered this question and believes the timing is right for Point Hope.

The time is right is based on:

  • Our mortgage increased significantly when we transitioned to the Global Methodist Church. The church

mortgage debt stands at $551,000 and is costing the church $45,763 per year in interest charges. Reduction in the mortgage debt will directly impact our ability to expand ministry and community outreach which is our church’s mission.

  • The timing is also conducive because we expect interest rates to begin to decline later this year. The combination of the campaign financial gifts along with refinancing our debt next year to a lower rate will magnify the positive impact Point Hope’s ability to expand programs and outreach.

  • To increase our ministry and outreach we need to improve our financial structure so that we have the ability to grow programs while remaining financially sound. Our goal is to expand programs but to do so without taking on additional debt.

2. How can I GIVE?

Answer: There are many ways to give to the campaign:

•Cash donation either as a lump sum or over the campaign period. You may write a check or give online

at pointhopechurch.org/give. Select the dropdown option “The M.O.R.E. Campaign.” If you wish to provide

a gift (stocks, bonds, property or life beneficiary), but need a different arrangement please feel free to discuss

confidentially with Finance Chair Arch Martin.

3. Does the M.O.R.E. Campaign pledge replace my 2025 regular giving pledge?

Answer: No, the M.O.R.E. Campaign pledge is considered an over and above pledge to our annual pledge / giving

to Point Hope. Our church operates on our regular giving which we use to create a budget which has priority.

4. What will the money be used for?

Answer: All funds collected will be used toward the direct

reduction of the church’s debt.

5. How long do I have to pay for my pledge?

Answer: The campaign will end on September 30, 2025. It is preferred that pledges be paid by then as our goal is to use the pledges when we refinance our mortgage however if you have a special request please feel free to discuss confidentially with Finance Chair Arch Martin or Pastor Elizabeth

6. Please explain what pledging to memorialize/dedicate a room means?

Answer: The council believes there maybe interest by church members to give a significant gift which will have a very positive impact on our goal. To incentivize larger gifts, we have provided the ability for certain rooms to be dedicated / memorialized in the name of a family. Members who choose to make this offering will have a plaque on the wall commemorating the gift. The donating family’s plaque will be placed on the wall within each room for permanent display. The room names however will not be changed. While the intention is to place the plaque in each room permanently, should the church remodel or move to another location some time in the future and the room no longer exists the plaque will be displayed inanother prominent location to honor the family.
